Liliet Orozco

Liliet Orozco is a Cuban dancer and choreographer with a solid trajectory in contemporary dance in Cuba. She received professional training at the National School of Art and developed her stage career as a performer with Danza Contemporánea de Cuba, one of the foundational companies of the country, where she served as a principal dancer and maître.

Throughout her work as a performer, creator, and educator, Liliet Orozco has built an artistic research centered on the body as a space of memory, resistance, and transformation. Her practice is inscribed in the tradition of modern and contemporary Cuban dance, in constant dialogue with the Afro-Cuban, indigenous, and European roots that shape the cultural identity of the country.

She is the founder and director of the company Orozco Contemporáneo, created in Havana, where she develops stage projects that articulate dance, music, and critical thought. Her choreographic work is characterized by a rigorous aesthetic exploration, where movement does not function as ornamentation, but as a language of ethical and political positioning.

Alongside her stage work, Liliet Orozco teaches at the university level in Havana, linking artistic creation with theoretical reflection and the transmission of knowledge. Her pedagogical and creative practice nourishes each other, consolidating a comprehensive vision of art as a tool for knowledge and social transformation.

In recent years, her work has developed the concept of Consuelo as an aesthetic and critical axis: not understood as a passive or sentimental gesture, but as a force of repair, care, and autonomy, capable of generating new forms of presence and meaning in the contemporary scene.

Currently, Liliet Orozco continues to expand the work of Orozco Contemporáneo through stage projects, musical collaborations, and artistic research processes, with a focus on both the Cuban context and international dialogue.

Orozco Contemporáneo is a Cuban contemporary dance company based in Havana, founded in October 2023 by dancer and choreographer Liliet Orozco. The company emerges as a structure for creation and stage production, conceived from its inception as a hybrid platform that articulates artistic research, contemporary creation, and professional development.

Orozco Contemporáneo operates under a creative industry logic, understood not as a standardization of artistic production, but as a work model that integrates creation, management, training, circulation, and sustainability. From this perspective, the company organizes its projects through defined processes, work teams, and strategic collaborations, aiming to consolidate a stable and far-reaching artistic practice.

The line of work of Orozco Contemporáneo is based on processes of body research that integrate dance, music, and critical thought, in dialogue with Cuban cultural traditions and contemporary languages. The stage is conceived as a space for meaning-making, where the body operates as a living archive, political territory, and tool for transformation.

Under the artistic direction of Liliet Orozco, the company develops stage projects that address themes such as identity, memory, care, resistance, and autonomy, from a rigorous and committed aesthetic. These projects are articulated through processes of collective creation, interdisciplinary collaborations, and educational actions, in relation to musicians, performers, and cultural spaces.

Orozco Contemporáneo is projected as an active structure within the current Cuban cultural context, with a vocation for international dialogue and the goal of consolidating as a contemporary creation platform capable of generating work, thought, and cultural value from a professional and sustainable logic.
