Artistic Approach and Philosophy
Liliet Orozco is a pioneering force in the contemporary Cuban dance scene, known for creating bold new forms of expression by blending traditional and modern dance. At the heart of her work is a commitment to redefining Cuban identity through movement, using dance as a powerful medium for cultural storytelling, resistance, and transformation.
Her choreographic style is rooted in the fusion of Afro-Cuban, indigenous, and European dance traditions, seamlessly integrated with contemporary dance techniques. Each performance becomes a rich, narrative-driven experience that addresses themes such as colonialism, identity, resilience, and change, resonating deeply with both local and international audiences.
Liliet’s approach is profoundly interdisciplinary. She draws from live music, visual arts, and academic research to craft performances that go beyond the stage; immersive, intellectual, and emotionally charged. Her works are as much about reflection as they are about motion.
One of the central pillars of her philosophy is the deconstruction of hierarchies and Eurocentric frameworks in the arts. Through her choreographies, she promotes Latin American cultural emancipation, revaluing African and indigenous perspectives and challenging dominant narratives.
At Orozco Contemporáneo, dance becomes more than art—it becomes a form of cultural reclamation and dialogue, shaping a space where tradition and innovation converge to create the future of Cuban contemporary dance.
